Our dear friend Thomas

The first show A would ever sit through was Thomas and Friends. While Kyle and I often laugh at the weird socialist references to being useful, there are certainly worse shows he could have picked. Also, the 10 minutes is really perfect to allow me to finish a quick kitchen cleanup or make his lunch.

Recently A has moved on to watching Micky Mouse Clubhouse, Curious George and Jake and the Neverland Pirates. But apparently his love for Thomas is not lost. It's just too ingrained. He got a snazzy new backpack and lunch box ahead of the new school year (not that we abide by that yet at day care) but he was SO excited to show it off!

Clearly his love for Thomas (and trains) hasn't been replaced by pirates or animals  yet :)

Thanks again Maga :)

The Firsts Never Stop

I think as a new parent you think firsts will stop when your kid turns one. But it doesn't. And it doesn't stop when they're 2 or 3 or ever really. Heck, I still do something for the first time sometimes, but I feel like it's this myth that firsts only happen in the beginning.

On the last few weeks we had some firsts that I has to share. First fireworks? Yes, definitely a big deal.

First time getting his face painted? Huge.

First time in a bounce house? Awesome. (His unhappy look is because I was taking a picture of course, not because he wasn't having fun.)

So yeah, the first will keep coming. I like that. And I know these firsts won't be lasts.

Summer days

It's been a long time since I posted...I'd say it's because we're having fun this summer (which we are of course) but it's also because I hit a bit of a wall with blogging. I've been trying to get the blog and newsletter set for the new year for the Junior League (go check it out at jlcville.wordpress.com ), so i haven't been focussing much on this one.

We have had a pretty mild summer so far here in VA, but water play is always fun. So, here's a quick shot of water play in the yard.

And while A LOVES his vegetables, he has been decidedly anti-tomato. I think he gets it from his DD. That said, I've always preached that the way to get a kid to like vegetables (or any given food) is to have them help you cook it or pick it. Well, thanks for the cherry tomato plant DaDoc because guess who loves tomatoes now?

As we hit the halfway point of summer, I think we're finally slowing down and ready to enjoy some more time at home. Maybe that means I'll do some more posting...
